What does the 14 million simultaneous Skype user figure mean ? Hear the Skypethists.
14 million users. 5 year old company and product. Lot's of (remote) history. Maybe it's time to do something else, but the most tenacious skype blogger geeks, don't seem to give up easily. I am surprised that I am still writing about it also... I guess it's a hobby like another. So I pasted this image from Teller (source).
Even at the biggest parties where people shout out things with a happy tone to it (yoehoe !) , there are always some with another less extatic mood or opinion. Here read them all (I consider the below the biggest group of tenacious Skype geeks (I should them the Skypethists - de Skypetetiesten in het Gents) I have ever met (online and offline) in my life :
- Jean Mercier from Skype Numerology mentioned the The fastest million ever!
- Dan York : Skype crosses over 14 million simultaneous users !
- Peter Parkes : Whoa, that was quick
- Phil Wolff : 14 million online - The fastest million ever
- Jim Courtney wrote about TOM-Skype Breach but nothing about the concurrent Chinese Skype users
- Andy Abramson wrote about Skype Helping eBay's Numbers but nothing on the 14 million users.
- Stuart Henshall Skype and 14m! - No big deal!
- Om Malik (Giga Om) wrote about something else : MySpace Yes But No Facebook on Google Phone
- Joerg Droege with his Nafcom's Crap Blog! but nothing on the 14 mio users.
- J.A. Watson wrote about Skype it's "Improved" Customer Support? but nothing on the 14 mio users.
- Jan Geirnaert : Skype number game is on : more than 14 million simultaneous Skype users.
Luckily the above guys don't have to sing together. Where is Bill Campbell (find more on BC)by the way ? He used to have these spicy outspoken opinions, but I guess that he is working for Skype as a consultant, so probably not allowed to blog anymore due to NDA (Non-disclosure agreement). A pitty...
Looking back at this amazing number of concurrent online Skype users; I think there was not so much noise made (not needed also) on the topic. Opportunity missed, I would say. Maybe Skype could give a rewards to the the 15 millionth user when that one become on that that hits the jackpot ?
Skype could and should put these blogger heads on a table and put the Skype CEO Josh Silverman in the middle (or at the round table if you want to be more democratic) and then the exercise can begin. I am sure that the MP3 recording of such a conversation with spicy questions, would be download a lot. Pamela Systems could sponsor the event. and it would be a good opportunity to test out some Skype 5 channel talking. The new Skype PR boys could also sit on the side and learn.
