Bandwidth Hog Skype to be cut off in it's growth by Comcast, Time Warner and AT&T ?
It' all about p2p traffic control. Bandwidth cost money, the competition is fierce. You can't expect surfing networks for free without paying for it. The question is who will be the biggest cannibal on the net. Maybe somebody will then go headhunting for the cannibals... The game is on. Who will cannibilize who and how will it be regulated. I have ask (from my own simple perspective this question on ITU Hong Kong few years ago...)
Read this for starters, the wonder what type of p2p blocking devices they are putting in place and then look after few months if these network operators will sell their own VoIP instead of Skype...
"The era of carefree, unlimited Internet browsing and downloading might be coming to an end. Industry leaders Comcast and Time Warner Cable have started testing traffic-metering and management techniques that seek to rein in heavy usage, and AT&T says such limits are inevitable for the most extreme users of its network."
"Christ Libertelli, senior director of government affairs for Internet communications provider Skype, said the potential changes present more uncertainty for Internet companies as they look to grow and innovate. Skype, for example, with 309 million users, has 28 percent of its calls conducted over video - and Skype is looking to increase video calling. "This hurts both network operators and Internet companies like Skype. Both sides need clear rules in this area so we have the right expectations and can invest appropriately," Libertelli said.
